Licences

This page summarises the licences. What legally applies are the licence files in each repository (LICENSE, LICENSE-DATA and NOTICE); where this page and a repository differ, the repository's files apply. Questions about licences, or about using ChemE-as-Code in a company: Industry & contact.

This build does not link the repositories; each holds its licence files.

Data

Unless a process states otherwise, the process data and designs in the Process Atlas (process descriptions, flows, inventories, the catalog and the life-cycle inventory database) are licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 (CC BY 4.0). Please cite it as described on the How to cite page.

The life-cycle inventory database contains no third-party background data: activities of databases such as ecoinvent are referenced by name only and require your own licence.

Software

The ChemE-as-Code framework (the cheme toolkit and command line) and these websites are free software, released under the GNU Affero General Public License, version 3 or any later version (AGPL-3.0-or-later); the Viewer is part of the same repository. The process library's scripts and skills are under AGPL-3.0-or-later too. Its LCI installer (python/) is under the MIT licence.

Your plant data

Plant data and models you create (P&IDs, YAML, reports, generated drawings and results) are yours, under terms you choose. Running the tools does not put AGPL on what they produce.

In short: code, scripts and skills AGPL-3.0-or-later · process data and designs CC BY 4.0 · LCI installer MIT · your plant data is yours.

Third-party components on these sites

The websites themselves (this site, the Process Atlas and the docs) load these open-source components in your browser; each keeps its own licence. The repositories use many more packages; their licences are recorded with each repository (its dependency files and NOTICE).
